De geschiedenis van de wijnbouw in wat we nu de VS noemen is eigenlijk zeer recent. De oudste wijnmakerij van het Noordoosten, de Brotherhood Winery in de vallei van de river de Hudson, dateert van 1839. In het zuidwesten waren het de Franciscaner monniken die de eerste druiven introduceerden vanuit Mexico. In het begin werkte men veelal met hybride druivenrassen; met de grootschalige introductie van vinis vinifera ging de kwaliteit enorm vooruit. Vanaf de jaren 70 van de vorige eeuw kwam ook internationaal het grote succes. J. Lohr is een typisch voorbeeld van wijnmaken op z'n Californisch: met een open oog voor de behoeften van de markt en met tegelijk de ambitie om de beste te zijn.

Proefnotitie

Een rijke, volle, maar frisse wijn met rijpe citrius, appel, nectarine, honing, vanille en toast.

Drinken bij

Heerlijk bij kreeft met avocadomousse, moules marinieres, kip uit de oven of gestoofde kip met cittroen, olijven en kappertjes.

Houdbaarheid

Nu op dronk en zeker houdbaar tot vier á vijf jaar na de oogst.
